Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue is one of 36 representatives of the State who will travel abroad for St Patrick’s Day
Donegal TD and Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue is to visit New Zealand as part of the Government’s Patrick's Day programme of visits abroad to promote Ireland.
The Fianna Fáil TD’s trip will take in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and is part of the Government’s biggest programme of visits abroad to mark St Patrick’s Day.
A total of 36 representatives of the State will visit 74 cities in 44 countries.
The visits are part of the Government’s Global Ireland strategy which seeks to promote Ireland as a location to live, visit, work, invest in, trade with, and study.
The trip will be Mr McConalogue’s first St Patrick’s Day trip abroad as Minister for Agriculture since his appointment in September 2020. He was unable to take part in a trip to Canada last year after testing positive for Covid-19 and instead spent St Patrick’s Day at the parade in Buncrana.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will visit Washington for the traditional visit to the White House on St Patrick's Day and Tánaiste Micheál Martin will travel to New York and Boston.
