Donegal Gardai have revealed that with the assistance of a new Active Mobility App, Gardaí from their Ballyshannon Garda Station detected a car yesterday that had not been taxed in quite a while.

An 'up to date' tax disc was displayed but on further inspection it was suspected to be false/altered.

The driver was arrested and charged, while the car was also seized, they revealed.

They have asked all Donegal drivers via their Facebook page to ensure that vehicle documents such as tax, insurance and NCT are up to date and in order before taking to the roads.

The app itself enables instant access to Garda intelligence and databases for gardai on patrol and has been rolled out on a phased basis across the Garda divisions since May of 2021.
