'Sun, showers with a chance of thunderstorms' expected for St Patrick's Day

We don't want to rain on your parade but anyone out and about on St Patrick's Day are warned about showers and even a risk of thunderstorms.

Met Éireann have said there will be mixed weather patterns throughout Friday, although temperatures will be mild compared to the chill of early March.

"Sunny spells and showers tomorrow, St. Patrick's Day," Met Éireann say. "The showers will be heavy and prolonged at times with a chance of thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees in mostly moderate south to southeast winds, decreasing light later.

"Some clear spells overnight but largely cloudy with scattered showers, some still heavy. Later in the night, outbreaks of rain will move in over parts of the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees. Mist and fog patches will form in light breezes. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds will develop on Atlantic coasts later as the rain arrives."
