The chairperson of the Regional Health Forum West has described as shocking the fact that the report into flooding which occurred at Letterkenny University Hospital in 2013 and 2014 has not been made available to the public.

Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry McMonagle was informed that legal advice has been sought as to the publication of this report.

Speaking at a meeting of Regional Health Forum earlier today, Cllr McMonagle said: "I understand what they are saying in relation to legal advice but I think eleven years after the first event that we haven't got a report on it yet is shocking to say the least.

"I don't know if further information in relation to legalities is preventing the report being published but I think it is in the public interest that it is published as soon as it is able to be done."

He voiced his disappointed that he had not been furnished with a timeframe as to when the information and report would be made available.

The CEO of the Saolta University Health Care Group, Mr Tony Canavan said the matter is a complicated one and a number of parties had been involved.

He said recommendations had been made, at the time, to ensure that measures were put in place immediately for the protection of the hospital: "Certainly, so far, these measures are affective and are functioning well," he said.

He did add that the report will be published when clearance has been given.
