Distinguished Gentleman’s Bikers back on the Diamond

Last year, motorcyclists in 804 cities around the world gathered together on the same day to fundraise for prostate cancer and to raise awareness of men's health issues.

It took place in Donegal for the very first time in 2022 and again this Sunday for its second year, bikers from throughout the north west will set aside their leathers and don their finery as they join in this global event.

The unique worldwide charity motorbike event ‘The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride’ raises funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember.

But instead of the popular leather apparel usually associated with bikers, all of the Donegal participants will become the epitome of sartorial elegance, prompting memories of both gentlemanly days gone by and raising awareness of two extremely important health issues for the modern Donegal man.

Bikers will gather on the Diamond in Donegal Town from around midday on Sunday next May 21, dressed in their tweeds, dickie bows and cloth caps.

There will be no fundraising on the day, this is done through sponsorship of the riders involved.

Organiser Joseph McCloskey from Killybegs told the Democrat:

“We would welcome anyone who would like to come along and join us as we depart on a short ride out from the diamond, to walk around and view the bikes and engage with the bikers for a bit of chat and a laugh.

“Please embrace the theme of the day, tweeds or anything quirky if possible, all are welcome.”

He added: “Uniquely, it's an event that is being held in over a hundred different countries and upwards of 800 cities on the same day.
