Death announced of “beautiful soul” 11-year-old Zara Witherow

There has been a huge outpouring of sadness and tears following Zara Witherow's (11) passing

There has been a huge outpouring of sadness and many tears following the announcement by her family of the death of “beautiful soul” young Zara Witherow 10, from Tawley, Castlegal, Co. Leitrim, who died peacefully in the loving arms of her heartbroken parents and sister on Sunday.

Zara’s parents, Mark and Gina Geagan Witherow are well known and respected business people in Bundoran and last November, Zara herself presented a cheque for an amazing €25,906 to Ronald McDonald House, which is attached to Crumlin Children's hospital in Dublin.

Dad Mark remarked at the time that his daughter was “chuffed with the response and happy to be helping other families on their journeys.”

Last year, Zara had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

This beautiful picture of the late Zara was taken in June at MacCumhaill Park. It was her first time attending a Donegal county game and Zara is pictured with her dad Mark (right) and grandfather Cairns, who is from Dunfanaghy.

In announcing Zara’s passing, her family said:

“Zara's passing will be a source of huge sadness and pain to her loving parents Gina and Mark and her sister Alannah. Her grandparents Cairns and Margaret, Pat (deceased), Colin and Leo.

“The devastating news of courageous Zara's passing has cast a shadow of grief and sadness among her cousins, her wider family circle and local community . . . may her beautiful soul rest in peace.”

The removal of Zara's remains will take place on Tuesday morning to arrive at St. Aidan's Church, Kinlough for 11 am Mass of the Angels.

Burial will take place afterwards in St. Aidan's Cemetery, Kinlough.

Family flowers only have been requested with donations in lieu if so desired to Cian's Kennels fund.

Zara's funeral mass can be viewed on Kinlough/Glenade Parish Facebook page.

House is strictly private please at all times.

There will be no wake.
