Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden has died at the age of 72. Among those paying tribute are the organisers of the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival where Marsden was a regular visitor.
A spokesperson for the festival said: “There are no words to describe this very sad news, the death of legendary guitarist and best friend to Ballyshannon and to the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival - the Late Great Bernie Marsden.
“What fun times we had when Bernie came to town.
“Bernie first came to the Rory Gallagher Festival in the mid noughties, I think maybe 2006 / 2007 (I will check) but I always remember the thrill that Bernie had performing at the Rory Gallagher Theatre. Many times after Bernie returned always with that beaming smile.
“We extend our sympathy to all Bernie's wife Fran, daughters Charlotte and Olivia, friends, management, music colleagues.
“May you rest in peace Bernie x”
A short statement was issued on Friday afternoon announcing the sad news.
It reads: “On behalf of his family, it is with deep sadness we announce the death of Bernie Marsden.
“Bernie died peacefully on Thursday evening with his wife, Fran, and daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, by his side.
“Bernie never lost his passion for music, writing and recording new songs until the end.”
