Ramp is causing flooding at the Diamond in Raphoe claims Cllr Gerry Crawford

Flooding concerns at the Diamond, Raphoe

A newly installed ramp at the Diamond in Raphoe is causing flood water to divert and affect nearly houses, it has been claimed.

The matter was raised at Monday's Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District meeting by Cllr Gerry Crawford.

Cllr Crawford said concerns were expressed to him about newly placed ramps at the Diamond in the town saying he had been told these actually contributed to the flooding in the town centre.

"I know these new ramps were put down as part of the enhanced works at the Diamond but it has been suggested one in particular caused flooding to houses on one side, something that had not happened previously."

He added in the past the road might have been affected but the water never made it to the houses now the ramps were "stalling" the water and causing a flooding hazard.

"The people affected are asking for the ramp to be removed," he said.

Senior roads engineer Claire McGeever said she had only been notified of this problem recently.

"We will need to take a look at it to see exactly what the problem is and which ramp is causing the difficulty."

She added she would come back to the councillors when this was done.
