The Greenway project outside Castlefin
An extension to the Lifford-Castlefin Greenway project should be considered now in the context of new work installing a water main between Castlefin and Liscooley.
The idea was floated at Monday's Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District meeting by Cllr Gary Doherty.
"Now that the work on the Lifford to Castlefin Greenway is ongoing and work on the new Uisce Éireann water mains pipe has started between Castlefin and Liscooley, I think it's patently obvious that the work to install the new water main is pretty much the same as the preparatory work as the Lifford to Castlefin Greenway.
“To me, it's a no-brainer to extend the Greenway to Liscooley. The land has already been cleared and I don't think it would take a lot to extend it."
He added he now wanted to know how they could go about applying for extra funding to do this. This should be a priority whether it be done through the roads section or some other section.
Senior roads engineer, Claire McGeever said she would pass his suggestion on to the Greenway project team in the council
