Franciscan Friar Fr Vincent Finnegan is set to leave Rossnowlagh - but he his not travelling too far.

Fr Vincent took to Facebook on Monday to address speculation about his move.

He said: "It’s only today I can officially say that I am moving to the parish of Stranorlar.

"I remain a Franciscan friar, but have been given permission to go on loan to the diocese of Raphoe.

"I have loved my time in Rossnowlagh, especially meeting so many inspiring people who are going through life debilitating illnesses during that time.

"I have also loved my time helping in the parish of Ballyshannon."

Fr Vincent will leave on Monday, October 2, and he is inviting parishioners to attend his final Mass in the area.

He said: "There isn’t an opportunity to say a final Mass at the friary, but I will be saying a final Mass in St Patrick’s Church Ballyshannon this Saturday evening at 6.15pm. There will be refreshments after the Mass. It would be so nice to see you and say a proper good bye.

"And if I don’t see you, thanks for your support and kindness."
