The late Arnie Whyte.
Tributes have been paid to trucker Arnie Whyte, the motorcyclist killed in a road traffic accident near Glenties on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Whyte, aged in his 40s and from Letterkenny Road, Convoy, was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the R262 near Glenties just before 4pm.
The popular father-of-two will be laid to rest in his native Convoy on Wednesday.
He worked with the Raphoe-based Goudie Bros Transport Ltd, who said they have lost ‘a great driver and friend’.
“Arnie was one of our top drivers since January 2021, always saying yes to whatever the boss asked of him and he was guaranteed to make you laugh with his aul carry on,” the company said in a tribute.
“His loss will be felt deeply here at Goudie Bros and beyond in the trucking world.”
After a service at his home on Wednesday at 2pm, Mr Whyte will be buried in St Ninian’s Church graveyard, Convoy.
Gardai and the emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision on Sunday. Mr Whyte received medical treatment at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The road was closed to traffic to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene and was reopened again on Monday.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Glenties are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda station on 074 916 7100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
