Frances Browne competition winners announced

The Frances Brown competition winners were announced at the weekend. The poem Disguises by Deirdre Hines won first place in the English language category. Two poets from County Wexford scooped the second and third prize in the category Taking the Gloves by Paul Hennessey and God’s Garden by A.M. Cousins. 

A Gaoth Dobhair poet, Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhríde won the first prize in the Irish language category with her poem Fear Raice, the second place winner was Réaltán Ní Leannáin with her poem Foighid and the third place winner in this category was won by a Galway writer, Caitriona Lane with Atlantach. 

Anne McMaster won first prize in the Ulster Scotch category with the poem Chalk. Second prize was scooped by an Antrim poet, Angeline Kelly with her poem The Wumann Who birthed seaborn and the third place in this category was won by Glen Wilson from County Armagh with the poem Postlude. 

The first place in the local category was won by Sweetay Monay by Niall Iósaf Ó Gallchobhair, second place was won with the poem by Tiomna an chrann doartha by Anna Colhoun and third place was won, once again, by Niall Iósaf Ó Gallchobhair with the poem Cnoc an Bhogha. 

The Eilish Carroll McBride award was won by Seamus McDermott with his poem My Grandfather. The Treasure Each Voice Award was won by Glen Wilson from Armagh and the Spirit of the Festival Award was won by Angeline Kelly, County Antrim.
