The mystery Railway Bridge being built in Donegal was solved after some investigation by the Donegal Democrat
A virtual treasury roadshow which will explore the history of Donegal and its people through the lens of this online resource will take place on Wednesday, November 22.
In June 1922 the Public Record Office of Ireland was destroyed in the battle of the Four Courts, the opening engagement of the Civil War. In a single afternoon seven centuries of Irish history went up in flames. The Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland is an all-island and international research programme working to digitally reconstruct, as far as possible, these lost archives.
By tracking down copies and transcripts in libraries and archives around Ireland and overseas the team have recovered tens of thousands of documents relating to every corner of Ireland, making them available online free of charge.
Speakers on the evening will be Ciarán Wallace, the Deputy Director of the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, Brian Gurrin - Virtual Record Treasury Research Fellow, Donegal records in the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, Niamh Brennan - Archivist, Donegal County Archives, History resources in Donegal County Archives and Una Mathewson - Librarian, Donegal County Council, Local history resources in the Central Library.
Attendance is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments provided. Booking is essential so please call 074 91 24950 or alternatively email central@donegallibrary.ie.
The event will take place between 7pm and 9pm in the Central Library, Letterkenny
