Wind warning remains in Donegal as 1,400 left without power

Strong winds lashed Donegal overnight leaving many homes and businesses in the dark for a period

As strong winds lashed Donegal, over 1,400 premises were left without power on Thursday morning.

Fierce gales hit the county overnight and in the Finn Valley area, there were 1,387 homes and businesses left without power.

ESB crews responded to swiftly restore electricity to most of the affected customers.

In Letterkenny, a further 28 customers were left in the dark as a result of an outage.

Met Éireann has a status yellow wind warning in Donegal which is effective until 8pm.

“Northwest winds will be very strong at times,” a spokesperson said. “High waves are also expected.

Met Éireann say that potential impacts include wave overtopping, debris, loose objects displaced and difficult driving and cycling conditions.

A status yellow maritime gale warning from Roche's Point to Bloody Foreland to Wicklow Head and on the Irish Sea North of Anglesey is also in place and will remain so until 5am on Friday.
