Man who was injured claims he was asked to lie on Letterkenny Hospital floor

The directive was issued following an incident in which it is alleged a patient who had fainted was asked to lie on the floor of the hospital Emergency Department

Staff at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) have been asked not to ask patients to lie on the Emergency Department (ED) floor, a report in the Irish Times has claimed.

The directive was issued following an incident in which it is alleged a patient who had fainted was asked to lie on the floor of the hospital Emergency Department.

During the interview, the patient claimed to have fainted again while on the floor and woke up with a black eye, a nosebleed and a pounding headache.

The report states: "He does not recall what happened to him. But the hospital said he sustained the injuries when falling onto his forehead during his attendance at the hospital in September 2022."

The report also alleges several administrative errors occurred in contacting the patient and his family following the incident.
