'Really special feeling' as baby Amelia is Donegal's first newborn of 2024

The first baby born in Donegal in 2024, Amelia, entered the world at 12.13am on New Year’s Day.

Amelia was born to parents Danielle Gallagher and Andy Kearney at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Danielle is a native of Newtowncunningham and little Amelia was one of the first newborns in Ireland - the first in the Republic outside of Dublin.

Amelia weighed 8.1lb and staff at the hospital said there was a ‘really special feeling’ after her arrival.

Ireland’s first baby delivered was at 12.04am, baby Arlo, who was welcomed by Nicole and Robert Emmet at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.

Just two minutes later, baby Mirah arrived at the Coombe Hospital, weighing 4lb 14oz.
