Award winning photographer and filmmaker Emer O’Shea was inspired to produce a new short documentary following a chance encounter at Assaroe Lake during the early days of the Covid Pandemic.

The film ‘The Battle of Assaroe’ which is 21 minutes long, explores the history of the lake, its performance as a habitat for the natural world and examines the impact of the hydroelectric power plant on the landscape of Ballyshannon and the river Erne.

The inclusion of both archive and contemporary footage and imagery will bring the viewer down memory lane and pose the question “Where to from here?”

A preview of the  film will be shown on Wednesday February 21 at 8pm in the Abbey Arts Centre, Ballyshannon as part of a double film bill with the scheduled “The Peasants “ which will follow at 8.30.

A wine reception will take place at 7.30p.m. and the event is free. All are welcome to attend.

Contributors to the movie include Conor Carney and Easkey Britton and the preview will be launched by DCC Arts Officer Traolach Ó Fionnain.
