Letterkenny Educate Together National School has been given the green light for a major new extension.
A new two-storey extension has been granted planning permission.
The proposed development will see the construction of four new classrooms to the school.
The new extension will also include a library, and a staff room to include all related plant areas and service risers with site works also to include changes to the internal road layout and bus setting down area.
Also provided for in the application are site services and drainage, public lighting, landscaping and all ancillary site development works.
Donegal County Council have given the go-ahead, subject to ten conditions. The application was submitted by the Department of Education for the facility at Ballyboe, Lisnennan.
The new extension is to the existing three-storey north eastern gable wall of the existing facility.
The conditions attached by the local authority are related to the prevention of flooding and ensure the protection of waters, the interests of orderly development, traffic safety and preserving the amenities of the area.
LETNS first opened its doors in 2006, initially based in prefabricated buildings at Ballyraine, before moving to their new state-of-the-art 24-classroom development near the former Unifi site in Kiltoy at the end of October 2017.
In February 2018, the then Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD, performed the official opening of the facility which now caters for over 350 pupils.
