The man has been arrested and detained at Sligo Garda Station with An Garda Síochána confirming there are no injuries reported

Man arrested for brandishing knife on ATU Sligo campus

A man has been arrested after he was seen walking around ATU Sligo armed with a knife. 

The man was brandishing a large knife and waving it in the direction of passers-by with videos circulating on social media of the incident before gardaí arrived on the scene. 

The man has currently been detained at Sligo Garda Station and the incident is pending further investigation.

“Gardaí responded to reports of a disturbance at approximately 2pm in Ballytivnan, Co Sligo on Tuesday, February 27,” a garda spokesperson told DonegalLive.

“A man was arrested by Gardaí following the incident. No injuries were reported.”

ATU Sligo has 8,600 students including 650 from Donegal. ATU Sligo is under the same umbrella as ATU Donegal.
