Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media
Minister Catherine Martin met with the RTÉ board virtually for the first time since Dunfanaghy native Siún Ní Raghallaigh’s resignation as the chair.
The “forward-looking” meeting was focused on RTÉ strategy, reforms and the appointment of a new chair.
This comes following Ms Ní Raghallaigh’s resignation several hours after the minister’s appearance on Prime Time in which she expressed no confidence in the RTÉ Chair.
“I acknowledged the dedication and commitment which the former chair had shown in this regard,” Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD said.
“I also acknowledged the contribution of Dr. P.J. Matthews who has notified me of his decision, for work-related reasons, to resign from the board.
“I confirmed to the Board my immediate focus is on appointing a new chair and additional members very shortly to ensure that the board can continue its important work.
“I also provided assurances of my absolute commitment to a government decision on a new and sustainable funding model by the summer.”
