Donegal Town Courthouse has beautiful stonework but old plaster is ‘unsightly’

The Bridge Street wall of Donegal Town Courthouse has peeling plaster

The patchy old plaster on one wall of the otherwise beautiful Donegal Town Courthouse is an eyesore that needs attention, the March meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal heard.

Cllr Niamh Kennedy (Id)n said the matter had been mentioned to her, and she had noticed the issue herself.

“I have noticed it every time I drive into Donegal Town,” she said. “The old plaster looks very unsightly.

“You have beautiful stonework on one side and plaster falling off on the other.

“For such a beautiful tourist town it is an eyesore, especially when everything is looking so well with the new pavements.”

Cllr Noel Jordan (SF) went even further, saying: “The court house is getting very black looking.

“My belief is that it shouldn’t be there at all. It spoils the view of the castle.”
