Hughie Sweeney, from Gweedore, Letterkenny native Daniel O'Reilly and David Crawford, who is from Donegal Town, are Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal internationals. They enjoyed a visit to the FAI National Training Centre.

The Irish senior team are under interim head coach John O'Shea and take on Belgium on Saturday at the Aviva Stadium, then welcome Switzerland to the same venue on Tuesday.

Daniel, David and Hughie had the great honour of representing Ireland at the European Down Syndrome Futsal Tournament last September in Italy. Three Donegal men made sure the county was very well represented in the eight-man squad.

Daniel made history when he scored Ireland’s first-ever Down Syndrome Futsal goal. The striker showed some neat footwork against the hosts Italy to slot home. Goalkeeper David Crawford had a super tournament as did another forward Hughie Sweeney from Gweedore.

In January, the trio were winners of the Donegal Sports Stars Special Athlete category, along with basketball player Vicki McGill and swimmer Anna Hennessy, both of whom are from Letterkenny.
