As heavy snowfall hit parts of Donegal this afternoon, Donegal County Council will deploy its fleet of gritters.
Temperatures plummeted across the county in the last 24 hours and on Thursday afternoon some areas were hit by snowfall.
Traffic was halted on Meenaroy for a period after a lorry became stuck. After around 15 minutes, the lorry was able to get moving again and the traffic backup cleared.
Donegal County Council has advised that all of the county's designated gritting routes will be gritted from 6pm.
Met Éireann say that tonight will become mainly dry with clear spells.
The forecaster said: “A few showers will develop towards morning. Cold with lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees with frost and icy patches forming in light winds.”
