Some of the 550 trees being donated to families in Donegal Town
As part of the Donegal Town 550th anniversary celebrations, 550 trees have been donated to families via the town’s five primary schools.
A spokesperson for the committee said: “The Donegal Town 550th steering committee would like to thank Ashtree Garden Centre for their sponsorship of 550 trees to Donegal Town Tidy Towns to celebrate Donegal Town’s 550th anniversary.
“These were distributed to the families of the five local primary schools by Robert Ellis pf Ashtree Garden Centre and Owen Howells of Donegal Town Tidy Towns.”
The Schools are Glebe National School, Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Killymard, Scoil Aodh Rua Agus Nuala, and St Francis National School, Barnesmore.
Upcoming highlights of the year-long celebrations include the summer festival at a new venue at the quay, a symposium exploring the town’s history, and a major foodie event in October.
Many other events and activities are being planned by community groups.
