Falcarragh crash victim Keyna Barrett to be buried in Athenry

Keyna Barrett, the elderly woman who was killed in a road traffic collision on Tuesday, will be laid to rest in her native Galway on Saturday.

Ms Barrett, who was aged in her 80s, was involved in a single-vehicle collision at around 1.30pm on Tuesday on the N56, Ballina Road in Falcarragh.

Ms Barrett, the driver and sole occupant of the car involved, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, but was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The road was closed for several hours to allow Forensic Collision Investigators conduct an examination of the scene.

Predeceased by her husband, Jim Barrett, her brothers Peadar and Martin and sisters Olive and Marie, Ms Barrett, late of Moyra Glebe, Falcarragh is survived by sons John and Declan, daughters Mairead, Sinead and Paula, daughters-in-law Vicky and Marianne, son-in-law Damien, nine grandchildren, brother John, sister-in-law Mary and a large circle of family and friends.

Her Funeral Mass will take place in Teach Phobail Naomh Fionán, Falcarragh at 11am on Friday.

Ms Barrett's remains will then repose overnight at Quinn’s Funeral Home, Athenry, Co Galway and she will be buried in Athenry graveyard on Saturday morning at 11am.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Falcarragh area between 1:15pm and 1:45pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milford Garda station on 074 9153060, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
