Donegal goes to the polls on Friday, June 7
Ninety-one into 37 doesn't go - and next weekend's local elections in Donegal promise to throw up some interesting battles.
There are 37 seats up for grabs in Donegal County Council as the country gets ready to go to the polls on Friday, June 7.
Of the sitting Donegal County Councillors, Fianna Fáil’s Rena Donaghey, Independents Nicholas Crossan and Tom Conaghan and Sinn Féin's Liam Doherty are not seeking reelection, while Sinn Féin Councillor Maire Therese Gallagher stepped down earlier this year.
Fianna Fáil saw 12 councillors elected in 2019 while Sinn Féin won ten seats by the time the sums were totted.
The addition of the newly-formed 100% Redress party certainly adds some intrigue to the race for the County House in Lifford.
A total of 91 candidates have declared across the seven local electoral areas that make up the five municipal districts in Donegal.
