Local elections: Milford’s third count complete as O’Donnell admits defeat

John O’Donnell, a sitting councillor, has said he does not see himself being reelected in the Milford LEA.

O'Donnell is an independent candidate who was first elected to Donegal County Council in 2014. In the three-seater, O’Donnell trails Declan Meehan, Liam Blaney and Pauric McGarvey. “We’re still going to leave here with our head held high,” O’Donnell said. “I’m not a sore loser.”

After the third count, Eamonn Jackson (100% Redress Party) has been eliminated and 603 votes will now be transferred.  Still, no candidate in the Milford LEA has reached the 2,058 quota but Declan Meehan continues to be the most popular candidate at this time. There are five candidates still in the running for the three-seat LEA.

The results of the third count are as follows:

Declan Meehan (Non-Party) has received 124 transferred votes which totals 1,886; Liam Blaney (Fianna Fáil) gained 115 transfers, now having 1,713 votes; Pauric McGarvey (Non-Party) gained 79  which leaves him at 1,525; John O’Donnell (Non-Party) received 63 totaling 1,407;  Maria Doherty (Sinn Féin) has gained 45 she now has 996.

After the third count, four candidates have been eliminated and a total of 100 have been deemed non-transferable.
