Romance is certainly alive and well with Patrick and Patrica Flynn who recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the Central Hotel in Donegal Town.
The venue is very special to the couple who travelled from Portaferry, County Down for the celebrations.
Patricia told Donegal Live: “We had our wedding reception there 50 years ago. I’m from Fermanagh originally, and that is why the reception was down here.”
And as if that wasn’t romantic enough, the entire thing was a complete surprise to Patricia.
“He organised the whole party without me knowing a thing,” she said. “We went in and all our friends and family were there, it was really wonderful.”
Patricia laughs as she adds: “I’m telling everyone I meet! It was just so amazing. I’m still feeling so much joy and happiness.”
The pair were enjoying the last day of their break in Donegal Town on Friday morning, browsing the shops and taking time to relax on the newly opened Diamond which has undergone a major upgrade.

“It is really nice,” Patrick and Patricia said of the Diamond. “It is lovely to see so many people sitting out, even if it is a bit breezy.”
There was no need to ask this golden couple the secret to a long and happy marriage. Their attentiveness to each and their relaxed, friendly manner said it all. And the twinkles in their eyes too, of course.
