Killybegs Community Hospital
Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Niamh Kennedy (Ind) says it is not acceptable that people can’t get access to day services at Killybegs Community Hospital.
Speaking at the July meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal, Cllr Kennedy asked that a letter go to the HSE asking for clarity on the matter.
“Killybegs Day Hospital needs to be opened,” she said. “It did not reopen after Covid.
“There are a lot of people out there who can’t get access.”
She said there was much misinformation circulating about what was going on at the hospital.
“The staff are saying it should be done, that it should be reopened. It is needed for the elderly people in the community, not just in Killybegs but down as far as Glencolmcille.
“I am hearing that staffing levels and repairs being needed are the reasons that it is closed.
“We need to write to the HSE and find out what is happening.”Her request was supported by Cllr Manus Boyle (FG) who said: “Cllr Kennedy is right. The hospital is underutilised, with no day services, physio services, x-ray services.
“It is to be run as a hospital or it is not. We need to have staff there.”
Donegal County Council’s Area Manager for Housing and Corporate Services Pauric Sheerin said he would combine all the points raised and bring them to the attention of the HSE.
