Work is underway at Bundoran’s Boat Quay to help keep access clear for the RNLI lifeboat to launch, and for fishermen to carry out their work.
Cllr Michael McMahon (SF) had raised serious concerns on behalf of the RNLI and fishermen and the May meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.
Following his re-election to Donegal County Council, he welcomed the work being carried out by Donegal Council.
Area Roads Officer Mark Sweeney gave an update to the July MD meeting, saying: “We have met with fishermen and the RNLI. That work started last week and is ongoing.”Cllr McMahon welcomed the progress, saying: “It is a very serious issue.”
Earlier this year, local fisherman Sean Carty expressed his frustration at members of the public and recreational water users using the quay as a car park. There is free parking available a short distance from the quay which he stressed was a working area.
This was echoed by Bundoran RNLI members, who are appealing to people to use the free car park and keep the quay clear. In an emergency situation on the water, a few short seconds can be the difference between survival and tragedy.
Members of the public are asked to respect the measures in place at the Boat Quay.
