The volunteers at Killybegs Coast Guard have had a very busy week, assisting with three callouts over two days.

The unit was tasked on Tuesday evening to assist a hill walker who was seriously injured after a fall at Muckross.

A spokesperson for the unit outlined the operation, saying: "The casualty sustained a serious injury and was airlifted by Rescue 118 and transported to hospital.

We would like to thank the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and Rescue 118 for their assistance this evening.

"We would also like to thank the locals who helped us this evening.

"We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”

This follows two further operations for the dedicated volunteers of the unit in the last two days.

On Monday, a young cyclist was airlifted to hospital after sustaining a head injury from a fall from a bicycle in a remote area outside Ardara.

“We assisted the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and the crew of Rescue 118,” said the spokesperson. “The casualty was transported to hospital via helicopter.

“We hope the casualty makes a speedy recovery.”

And also on Monday, a woman was hospitalised after falling at Sliabh Liag.

“The casualty received first aid treatment, she was placed in a stretcher and brought to the car park where there was an awaiting ambulance,” said the spokesperson.

“We wish her a speedy recovery.

“Many thanks to our colleagues National Ambulance Service (NAS).

"As always, if you see anyone in difficulty on land or sea, Call 112/999 and ask for the Coast Guard."
