Lough Swilly lifeboat assists fisherman suffering chest pains while at sea

The Lough Swilly all-weather lifeboat was tasked by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist the fisherman

Members of the Lough Swilly RNLI have given assistance to a fisherman who developed chest pains while at sea.

The Lough Swilly all-weather lifeboat was launched on Wednesday afternoon after being tasked by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist a local fisherman who was experiencing chest pains on his boat close to Rathmullan pier.

A passing local boat had raised the alarm. The lifeboat crew boarded the vessel and administered casualty care. The fishing vessel was escorted by the lifeboat to Fahan Marina where an ambulance was waiting for him.

Joe Joyce from Lough Swilly RNLI praised the multi-agency response.

“Everyone involved yesterday deserves great credit,” he said. “The passing fisherman acted very quickly contacting the coast guard and our crew managed to launch in under 4 minutes from the time the pagers went off which is a fantastic response from our volunteers. And then to have an ambulance at the marina waiting on him was brilliant. Everyone at the station wishes him a speedy recovery”.

Anyone who is in difficulty in or on the water or sees someone in trouble,  is asked to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coast guard.
