Man killed in Kerrykeel crash named locally

A man killed in an accident on Tuesday in Kerrykeel has been named locally as James Mailley.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 3:30pm on Tuesday on the Shore Road. The driver of the car, 65-year-old Mr Mailey, was fatally injured and it is believed he suffered a medical emergency while driving.

Originally from Scotland, Mr Mailley ran the Carlan Foods bakery in Kerrykeel. Gardaí closed the R-246 Kerrykeel to Portsalon overnight, with diversions in place via Harry Blaney Bridge.

The local coroner was notified and a post-mortem examination was held, with Garda forensic collision investigators conducting a technical examination.

Gardai are asking road users who may have camera or dashcam footage and were travelling in the area at the time to make it available to investigators.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in  the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,”  An Garda Siochana said. “Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milford Garda Station on 074 915 3060, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

Meanwhile, a man, also in his sixties, was brought to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Mountcharles in the early hours on Tuesday at 4:30am.  Then, in a separate incident at Inver on Tuesday evening, two people were hospitalised following a road traffic collision. The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 6:30pm.
