Live Updates: Storm Darragh leaves a trail of damage across Donegal

Storm Darragh is having a big impact in Donegal and nationally as this highly damaging storm hits the country. Our team will endeavour to keep you informed of the latest news as the storm leads to power cuts, fallen trees, flooding, transport disruptions and event cancellations.

Around 20,000 homes and businesses have been left without power as the storm wrecked havoc throughout the county.

10.10am: On the Shore Road, north of Harvey's Point, there are trees down and the road is blocked or partially blocked. 'Advise using an alternative route until cleared later today' is the Council's message

9.57am: Blocked Road, the L-5891 at Bluebell, Culdaff due to a fallen tree and local diversions in place.

9.52am: R264 Road at Raphoe Closed due to fallen ESB wires between the Hardware & Grain and The Mart. Public should avoid fallen wires

9.52am: Trees down along the main Illies road. 'Please divert and drive carefully', the Council says

9.49am: Flooding on Regional Road R239 at Birdstown and Donegal County Council Services are on the way

9.48am: R236 blocked between St. Johnston and Porthall at Maymore due to a fallen tree. A roads crew is en route

9.48am: Trees down along the main Regional Road at Ballyaderowen Derry side of E&I

9.48am: There is a tree down crossing the N56 road near Nomh Fionnan National School in Falcarragh

9.46am: There is a tree down close to Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair. Councillor Denis McGee says: "Be very careful there are also a lot of loose poles around Magheroarty"

9.31am: The road leading to Grianán of Aileach is blocked. Council services are on the way. Motorists are advised to drive carefully

9.20am: Trees are down on at the Bridgend roundabout. Donegal County Council and ESB teams are on site and traffic management is in place. Caution is advised

9.15am: There are trees down along the main road at Umcriam beside Lynch Windows. Donegal County Council staff are at the scene. Motorists are advised to drive carefully

9.10am: Trees down along the main road at Porthaw. Donegal County Council staff are on site. Caution is advised

9.00am: A tree is down on R238 Between Carndonagh and Ballyliffin at Rashenny. Motorists are advised to drive carefully

8.03am: Caution advised on the road between Monellan and Crossroads due to a fallen ESB pole

7.56am: A tree is reported to be down on the dual carriageway between Letterkenny and Manorcunningham. Caution is advised

7.45am: Heavy rainfall caused issues for motorists in many areas, including the N14 at the Dry Arch roundabout and also an area close to the picnic area at Manorcunningham

7.40am: The N56 close to the national school in Falcarragh is blocked due to a fallen tree. Due to health and safety reasons, workers have not yet been permitted to move it. "It will be treated as a matter of urgency when the weather warnings have ended," says Councillor Michael McClafferty

7.35am: The R236 is blocked around the area of the Broad Road in Convoy

7.30am: The R236 is blocked between St. Johnston and the townland of Tullyowen due to a fallen tree

5.09am: Cllr Michael McClafferty has advised:"There’s an Big tree down in Masinass Creeslough. And another at Cloone Creeslough on the N56 on your approach to Creeslough village"

Cllr Brian Carr is advising: "Tree down on Station Road at Mc Loone cars"

Mayor of Donegal Town Pauric Kennedy is advising: "Please be very careful out there tonight..roads blocked with trees..Orbeg Newtown and Glenborin.. hopefully get cleared in morning access is still open on Dummy’s Bridge road"

4.30: Several fallen trees blocking the road at Lough Eske between the Christchurch and the Harvey's Point crossroads 

4.30am: Numerous trees are blocking roads around the county. We will list any that we have are aware of as the storm continues

Friday evening: The Harry Blaney Bridge is closed due to high winds and is due to reopen at 8am.

Friday evening: Numerous events are cancelled or postponed due to the storm, including the staging of Shrek in An Grianan Theatre. Saturday's shows are expected to go ahead as planned, with the box office open from 1pm. 

Friday evening: Heavy rainfall leads to much localised flooding, with the Dry Arch Roundabout in Letterkenny among the worst hit at rush hour

Friday afternoon: Bus Eireann cancels Expressway services to and from Donegal as well as much of its local services
