A new three-storey library is included in a major extension to the ATU Donegal campus in Letterkenny.

ATU has been granted planning permission for a series of works with a 5,516 square metre building to be added to the ever-growing campus.

Donegal County Council has given its blessing to the major works.

The project will see the construction of a three-storey library, IT and general education building.

The premises will comprise of reading rooms, book stacks, general and special teaching spaces - including lecture theatre, classrooms, computer labs and group study rooms - staff offices and administration spaces.

A new greenway with a bicycle path and pedestrian walkway is also included in the works.

A covered bicycle shelter, capable of holding 50 bicycle stands, will be provided while site landscaping, services and development works are provided for in the planning application.

These plans first surfaced in 2008 and have now been granted permission, subject to 12 conditions set down by the local authority.
