West Donegal priest Canon Michael Herrity has retired.

Canon Herrity, who was ordained in 1969, has most recently been serving as Pastor Emeritus in the Cnoc Fola parish.

He served for 27 years as the Parish Priest in Annagry. He also served previously in Cnoc Fola from 1985 to 1991.

In 2019 he celebrated the golden anniversary of his ordination.

He was ordained in Fanavolty in June 1969 by the then Bishop of Raphoe Anthony McFeely along with Fr Francis McAteer from Fanad and Derrybeg native Fr Edward Coyle.

Canon Herrity was appointed to Cnoc Fola again in 2017 to replace Fr. Donnchadh Ó Baoill, who was transferred to Fintown.

A native of Ardsbeg, Gortahork, a son of Mr and Mrs Edward Herrity, he was educated at Cnoc na Naomh NS Derryconnor and Ard Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg before entering St Patrick’s in Maynooth.
