A presentation evening was held on Sunday night in Lizzie’s Diner in Dunfanaghy, where a cheque for €11,345.60 proceeds of the Annual Dunfanaghy Charity New Year’s Day Swim was handed over.
A spokesperson said: “This year’s chosen charity was Parkinsons Ireland North West, who were nominated by Judith McKinley and Bernice Alcorn.
“An enormous €11,345.60 was raised in total from the swim through registration monies, donations and bucket collections on the day and raffles. The raffle was drawn at the presentation evening, congratulations to the lucky winners and thank you to all who sponsored/ donated prizes.

"A huge thank you to everyone who attended the swim, all the volunteers and marshals, those who participated and braved the icy waters, the spectators and anyone who contributed or helped in any way to make the day such a success.”
Bernice and Judith would like to thank everyone who participated and donated to the event.
“The final amount raised was an incredible €11,345.60 which will do wonders for our Parkinson’s community," they said. “A special shout out to Greg Hughes, Lee Gooch from Highland Radio, Charlie Ward TD and our very own consultant Mr Ken Mulpeters for coming down and taking the plunge.
“To all our family and friends who came out and helped with the marshalling, selling tickets and shaking buckets too numerous to name and a very big thank you to Doe Amateur Swimming Club for choosing us as their "this year's beneficiary."
