The search is on for the next Honorary Mayor of Donegal Town.
Current Mayor Pauric Kennedy began his tenure back in 2017. He has been a leading light through the challenging years of the pandemic, as well as being a wonderful ambassador during happier times for the community.
Mary McGettigan of Donegal Town Community Chamber said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Pauric for his years of dedication as Mayor. He served the community very well and has been a fantastic figurehead for the town.”
Mr Kennedy’s time as Mayor saw the community face some of the most uncertain and frightening times in living memory as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold. Despite being a frontline worker at the coalface of caring for some of the most vulnerable members of society, Mr Kennedy still found time to be a support to the people of Donegal Town.
“He was a very positive force throughout the Covid-19 times,” said Mary.
“It wasn’t a time when any of us wanted to be thinking about mayoral elections, and Pauric stayed on throughout that time.
“Then last year, we had the Donegal Town 550 celebrations, and he represented us all very well.
“It has been a pleasure working with him, and we are very grateful for all that he has done in this voluntary role. I am sure we will be working with him again in some other capacity in the future, and we look forward to that and we thank him and wish him well.”
