Horror as child in wheelchair in Donegal gets dog foul on their hands

Dog foul is an ongoing problem on the streets of Donegal

The problems caused by dog foul on the streets of Donegal have reached a new level, with a child who was propelling themselves in their wheelchair having got dog poo on their hands.

This matter was raised at the March meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.

Cathaoirleach of the MD, Cllr Noel Jordan (SF) said: “A child with a wheelchair trying to wheel themselves and they get this on their hands, it is just not acceptable.

“We should look at a campaign getting it out there, especially going into the summer months.”

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Niamh Kennedy (Ind) raised the matter of dog foul at the meeting, and questioned the viability of the prosecution process.

“It is a big problem already with the new Diamond in Killybegs,” she said. “People with buggies etc are having a lot of issues.

“I understand if someone sees a dog fouling, it is up to them to approach the person and take them to court. Let’s face it, nobody is going to do that.”

Councillors called for the enforcement process to be looked at, and for campaigns to be put in place.

The issue is an ongoing one and has been raised by councillors in the MD on a number of previous occasions.
