Barry Sweeny and Michael Boyle are both vying for the seat on Donegal County Council
The selection of a Fine Gael councillor to fill the seat vacated by the appointment of Manus Boyle to the role of Senator is taking place in the coming days.
At present, two candidates have put themselves forward for co-option to Donegal County Council, sitting in the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.
Former councillor, Barry Sweeny from Ballyshannon who narrowly lost out on re-election in the last council elections, is hoping to claim the seat. Also vying for a seat in the MD is Bruckless man Michael Boyle, son of former councillor John Boyle and younger brother of Manus.
Both men will be seeking support from fellow party members, and will be hoping for a good turnout from their respective sides of the River Eske.
The selection process is due to take place on Friday, March 28.
