Fundraiser to support Donegal Town native undergoing cancer treatment in US

John O'Doherty's family are raising money to support him through cancer treatment

Donegal Town man John (Doc) O’Doherty has never shied away from hard work but cancer treatment floors the best of people.

Self-employed and living in the US, John’s recent metastatic prostate cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment mean that it will be impossible for him to work and support himself through the months ahead.

His family and friends have come together to raise funds to get him through this difficult period with as little stress as possible.

John’s brother Ronan has set up a GoFundMe page, and is appealing for any help that people can give at this challenging time.

“John has lived in the United States full-time since 1994, working in the construction and hospitality industries around the Brighton and greater Boston area,” he said.

“John is being treated by the fantastic oncology staff at Boston Medical Center and has already started his chemotherapy treatments.

“As you can imagine, the days after treatment are challenging, leaving him unable to work. As the sessions progress, we envisage the recovery periods being longer and longer, leaving those days available to work to support himself, few and far between.

“We hope to be able to provide John with enough funding to allow him to focus on his treatment and more importantly, his recovery, without having to force himself out to work while ill.

“We truly appreciate your help, enabling John the time to heal.

“Thank you in advance for your kind donation! Ronan”
