Elaine O’Donnell from Ranafast turned 50 in June and kept the celebrations on ice, so her get-together later this month will act as a means to raise money for Arranmore RNLI.

A special night of music and celebration is planned later as Elaine hosts her 50th Birthday Bash Fundraiser. The event will take place on Friday, September 26 at 9pm in Bonners Bar, Mullaghduff, with live performances from Murphy's Law, Pat Duffy, and Sean providing the entertainment.

“As most of you know I had the pleasure and privilege of turning 50 earlier this year,” she posted. “It was a busy time for me and we really didn't have any time to celebrate properly and my gang sure knows how to party, so I came up with this plan.

“You all know the sea and surrounding waters play a huge part in my daily life. The lifeboat in Arranmore also plays a huge roll on them same seas at all times of the year, regardless of the weather or the time of day or night. We as swimmers never know the time or the day when we may need the assistance of this essential service on our doorstep.

"So for my birthday celebration in Bonners Bar on September 26 I am holding a fundraiser for the Arranmore Lifeboat and most importantly, everyone is invited. Any donation is greatly appreciated.”

“Running a lifeboat station is a considerable expense, with the average station costing around €165,000 annually in Ireland,” Elaine added.

“The entire operation of the RNLI, including the maintenance of lifeboats, crew training, and equipment, is supported by public donations and legacies The RNLI does not charge for its rescue services, ensuring that anyone in need can receive help without financial burden. With all this in mind and also that most of if not all crew on lifeboats are volunteers . It would be great if we could give them back something to the amazing service that is provided to the public free of charge.”
