Edel joined the Irish Cancer Society to do meaningful work that has a positive impact on patients and their families
The Irish Cancer Society has announced that Chief Operations Officer, Edel Shovlin, will be interim Chief Executive Officer following the departure of Averil Power.
A Raphoe native, Edel trained and worked as a Radiation Therapist in the UK, Ireland and Australia, before furthering her career in health tech in Singapore and later healthcare operations leadership in a global Oncology provider based in Australia.
After returning to Ireland in 2024, Edel joined the Irish Cancer Society to continue doing meaningful work that has a positive impact on patients and their families.

Allan Kearns, Chair of the Irish Cancer Society, said: “Edel is an innovative and energetic operations leader and is a passionate advocate for better cancer care. The board is very grateful to her for agreeing to be interim CEO pending our final appointment, which will be announced in due course.”
