Three Donegal sports clubs have been awarded a combined €508,872 in funding announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD.

The initiatives at Cloughaneely Golf Club, Kilcar GAA Club and Keadue Rovers FC were approved under the Department’s Community and Language Support Programme, supporting community and sporting projects.

Pat the Cope Gallagher TD has welcomed the announcement and expressed thanks to Minister Dara Calleary for his continued leadership and commitment to investment in Gaeltacht and rural communities.

Cloughaneely Golf Club has been awarded €327,56, which is a substantial investment enabling a major redevelopment project, including the construction of a new 180m² clubhouse. The clubhouse will incorporate an office, changing rooms, storage rooms, daily lockers, a social space, a kitchen, a bar, and bathrooms. Installation of renewable energy systems, including geothermal heating, solar panels and EV charging points and development of new car parking spaces, including full disabled-access provision

Kilcar GAA Club will receive €116,894. This funding will support the construction of new changing rooms for their training field. These new facilities will be a tremendous asset during the upcoming Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in June 2026, which the club is proud to host.

Keadue Rovers FC were granted €64,417. Funding will allow the club to refurbish the existing changing rooms and referee’s room, including installation of new shower facilities, upgraded electrical works, and general improvements to enhance player and community use. This investment will modernise essential infrastructure for players, volunteers and supporters.

Speaking, Deputy Gallagher welcomed the announcement: “This funding will make a real difference to three excellent sporting organisations. Clubs like Kilcar GAA, Keadue Rovers FC and Cloughaneely Golf Club are at the heart of local life, run by volunteers who give so much to their communities. I want to thank Minister Dara Calleary and Roinn na Gaeltachta for supporting Gaeltacht communities and recognising that work and supporting these projects.”
