An Garda Siochana said: 'Please remember that when you choose to drive at speed on the roads, you run the risk of not seeing another Christmas'

Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit have been conducting speed checks today as part of their National Slow Down Day enforcement operation. 

They detected 12 drivers exceeding the legal speed limit in a speed zone of 100kph, and said "the majority of the drivers they stopped explained that they were just caught up in the Christmas rush."

An Garda Siochana said: "Please remember that when you choose to drive at speed on the roads, you run the risk of not seeing another Christmas! Fixed charge penalty notices will now issue. Three drivers were also given fixed charge penalty notices after they were observed holding/using their mobile phone while driving. Get to your destination safely this Christmas. Slow down. Do not hold/use your mobile phone while driving."
