Fine Gael Senator Manus Boyle has called for an air ambulance to be based in the county.
The call comes as the government purchased four specially equipped helicopters used as an intensive care unit to transport critically ill or injured patients.
Senator Boyle claims he has been asking for enhanced services for the National Ambulance Service for ten years and wants one of the helicopters to be based at Finner Camp. Highlighting that the Coast Guard has previously carried out this task.

“From a geographical point of view, it makes sense,” he said. “Donegal covers a vast, rural area with long travel times to major hospitals, and in emergency situations, minutes matter.
“An air ambulance based here would improve response times, strengthen emergency care, and ensure people in Donegal have the same level of access as anywhere else. This is about fairness, patient safety, and making sure geography doesn’t put lives at risk.”
