Killybegs harbour receives more than €2m in infrastructure funding

The funding is part of an allocation for capital projects in Ireland's publicly-owned harbours through the 2026 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme

The funding is from the Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme

More than €2m has been allocated to Killybegs harbour for a range of infrastructure works.

The funding is part of an allocation of €27 million for capital projects in Ireland's publicly-owned harbours through the 2026 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme.

Of the allocation of €2,116,000, €400,000 has been allocated for safety and maintenance works. A further €20,000 is designated for disability access improvements.

Energy saving measures will receive €400,000 in funding and €150,000 has been set aside for a passenger embarkation pontoon. Underwater quay wall repairs are allocated €200,000.

Vehicle and machinery (fixed assets) investment amounts to €66,000. Small craft harbour building completion works will receive €400,000 and €250,000 has been earmarked for landing pier refurbishment.

A wide load gate is allocated €150,000 and  €80,000 has been provided for power outlets to the wharf.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD said: “The 2026 Programme represents a major investment by Government in the ongoing development, modernisation and sustainability of Ireland’s fishery harbours and coastal infrastructure. The programme will support critical works across the six state-owned fishery harbour centres, improving safety, operational efficiency, environmental performance and climate resilience.”
