Popular food item pulled from shelves in Donegal shop following orders from the HSE

Donegal shop came under fire from the FSAI and the HSE recently as a particular product was pulled from the shelves after it was deemed non-compliant to food safety legislation.

A Prohibition Order was served on Chibuike Isaac Nnaemekam, owner of Good African Food Store located at 108 B Oldtown Road, Letterkenny.

The HSE inspector noted that a certain food product, Honey Beans from Nigeria, did not comply with certain legislation and the premises was prohibited from selling the product with immediate effect.

  • The food items were displayed for sale without adequate labelling or identification to facilitate its traceability, through relevant documentation. When requested no labelling was available for these items.
  • The mandatory particulars required under Articles 9 and 10 did not appear on the pre-packaging or on label
    attached or on commercial documents accompanying the foods listed.

The prohibition order was issued on February 19, 2026.
