Tenants of new Donegal County Council social housing estates are unable to charge their electric cars.
Cllr Gerry McMonagle raised the issue during a discussion on housing at today’s monthly meeting of the local authority.
While congratulating John Gallagher, Senior Engineer, on a ‘very positive’ report, he said there were a number of issues in relation to newbuilds.

“A lot of our new social housing estates have no driveways, only communal parking,” Cllr McGonagle explained.
“As a result, tenants can’t put electric chargers on the wall of their house as they have to run a cable across a public footpath - maybe we could put in ducting prior to construction.
“If we are serious about reducing our carbon footprint, people should be able to charge their electric cars. When designing social housing estates, we need to take all that into account.”
