Planning permission is being sought for a major development at a Donegal secondary school.
The Donegal Education and Training Board is seeking approval from Donegal Co Council planners for a major development at Gairmscoil Chú Uladh, Ballinamore, Clochán.
The proposed development will consist of the removal of existing temporary portacabins and the construction of a two storey extension to the existing school, containing an engineering room and a home economics room in one part.
A second part of the extension is set to contain a music room along with a new entrance.
The planning application also includes proposals to put solar panels on the roof.
Gairmscoil Chú Uladh was the county’s second all-Irish school when it opened in September 1982 in Ballinamore.
Located in the central Gaeltacht area that stretches from Glenfin to Doochary and Glenties, numbers grew quickly and a proper school building was required and this opened in 1984.
In September 2006, the go ahead was given for the refurbishment and substantial extension of the school at a cost of around €2.4m. The refurbished school and extension was officially opened in May 2008 by local TD Ms. Mary Coughlan, who was Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
